Winner Catalogue of the Year
Friday 22nd June, Ray and Jill Keen & George and Jean Coulter attended the 16th Australian Catalogue Awards at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre.
We had been informed that two of our entries were finalists, which meant they had a one in four chance of winning their categories. As we have been finalists before, we were not too optimistic.
We had entered catalogues on Interasia’s China in the Travel and Tourism Category and the Adelaide Festival Program in the Education and the Arts Category.
It was towards the end of the evening before these two categories were announced, so after two hours of awards and entertainment, we were hoping they would hurry up so we could have a drink and some dinner!
Finally, they announced the Travel and Tourism Category and our interest increased with nudges and “that’s ours ...”. When they announced the Interasia’s China catalogue was the winner, we were thrilled! Ray collected the trophy on stage, then moved to the side for photos. He had just walked away from his photo when they announced the Education and the Arts category - we had won that category as well with the Adelaide Festival Catalogue! So more photos now with two trophies! We were so excited – a double whammy! It was now time for the finale for the night, the presentation of the Catalogue of the Year, there were three categories.
We were not concentrating too well as we were so thrilled with our double win. So when the People’s Choice Catalogue of the year was announced, we did a double take when they called the Interasia’s China catalogue! We had WON THE TRIFECTA! – Catalogue of the Year, a third trophy and yet another photo.
That was the end of the presentations – there were streamers, cheers and a mass exodus for drinks and dinner! That left Ray all alone in the big theatre getting his final photo. But there was no way he would let go of the three trophies when George offered his help.
It’s amazing how winning can change your whole attitude to an evening. We were so excited and thoroughly enjoyed our night.
